Sourced from the volcanic soils at the base of Arrowhead Mountain, this unique juxtaposition of Petit Verdot and Malbec harmoniously honors its dual lineage. Grounded in a cool, quiet, earthiness born from the Petit Verdot, this wine is also balanced by a fresh exuberance from the Malbec. Bluish-purple in color, this unique blend opens modestly with aromas of fresh violets, dusty eucalyptus, dark wild mountain cherries and a hint of sarsaparilla root. Medium to full-bodied with bright acidity and fine-but-plentiful tannins, this wine exudes flavors of wild currant, dark red baking cherries with a fresh, cool eucalyptus finish. This wine drinks beautifully now, but can age gracefully for 15 years.
This field blend is sourced from two contiguous yet wholly-distinctive vineyard blocks among the foothills of Arrowhead Mountain, both boasting rhyolitic ash. Harvested concurrently, the selected four blocks were hand-sorted to a single tank and co-fermented on skins for three weeks. The wine then aged 16 months in thin-stave, French oak barrels (40% new, 60% used) from Baron, Quintessence and Saury cooperages, prior to aging one year in bottle.
